A friend of mine is stuck in a meeting, but gave me the keys to his new car. I’m sitting in it right now typing this. If I pull it out and hoon, I’ll lose a friend. If I don’t, I miss the experience, but keep the friend. Decisions, decisions.

I’ll just rev that Lambo V10 a bit and try to hide my erection to passers by.

Oh, and an outside pic:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Mmmmmmm...

UPDATE: I did not hoon, and I’m glad I didn’t. Shortly after posting it, my friend came out, we chatted, and he said that he doesn’t really know much about having a car like this (he’s been a truck kind-of-guy until now). So, in the next few weeks, we agreed to get together, go over the car, and make a date to get with an instructor to teach him how to track it. I’ll also drive it around and probably drive on the track as well.

Today was a good day.

They say revving the engine to redline once in a while is good for the engine. Just tell your friend you were performing some preventative maintenance.

Tell him you saw a spider on the throttle pedal.

Did he give you the keys to NOT drive it?

My thoughts exactly. COME ON, I NEED AN ANSWERRRRRRRR

no one just hands out keys to an R8, even if they’re “stuck in a meeting”

To get into it. Start the engine.

He just walked up, talking to his clients. I'm standing here holding his keys hostage.

Why don’t you just take it on a gentle drive. You can get most of the experience and keep the friend.

Even better is taking it to redline, in gear. Lubricates the entire powertrain.

Yeah, when I got my new car the first person I ever even let near the drivers seat was my brother. I literally tossed him the keys and he went way too gentle with it. I hooned it harder the first time I drove it from the dealership.

It's basically true. These cars are designed to operate at high RPM.

Pulling it out of the spot would have enraged him. I put it in reverse, but couldn't go through with it. He walked out 15 seconds later.

To tease me? To give me a chance to blow the engine while revving it to redline in the parking space? As a test of friendship?

Where does the visitor to Austin go for a steak? (Off topic, I realize, but I was sure you’d have an opinion...)

For an “Old Austin” experience, the Hoffbrau is pretty good. Eddie V’s (the original location downtown) is quite good as well. One of the best places, Hudson’s on the Bend, just shut down for renovations, but specialize in wild game (an acceptable replacement for cow steak). The Capital Grille is good for high end eats, too.

But I’ll tell you, the best beef in town comes in the form of brisket. If you already have that planned, good. If not, replace said steak with a great BBQ place just outside of Austin, on the “Texas BBQ Trail”.

Thank you. I had BBQ once at a place that was sort of a giant permanent tent. You bought the BBQ by the pound, and they gave you a loaf of bread to go with it. Could this be the place that you mention? I thought it was kind of dry...

No no, these are big BBQ joints. For example:
